Professor Joe Herzberg

Joe qualified at The London Hospital Medical College in 1978 and trained in psychiatry in London. He held Consultant posts in Old Age Psychiatry at Guy’s Hospital, 1987 – 1996 and East London NHS Trust, 1996 – 2010 (Associate Medical Director for Clinical Governance).

Passionate about Medical Education, in 1996 Joe was appointed an Associate Postgraduate Dean (Mental Health) to the London Deanery and then became the Dean for secondary care training in North East London in 2001 – 2008 (also Dean for Immunology and Allergy training in London).

Publishing widely in both psychiatry and medical education, Joe was awarded a personal chair in Postgraduate Medical education by Queen Mary College in 2006 (now Emeritus Professor). Joe worked as a Second Opinion Appointed Doctor for the Care Quality Commission from 2010 – mid 2013, inspecting the treatment of detained patients. He is now a freelance educationalist.
